Choosing a new CPU

Hi Guys,
I gave a pc as follows:

intel C2D e6400 2.13 @ 3.0
evga 680i mobo
corsair DDR2 5400
7900gs

I am getting a new PC soon and am thinking about the new AMD phenom (specifically the 8750) but am unable to find any relevand benchmarks, basically would this actually be faster than my current overclocked cpu?

do these Phenoms OC well?

Am i better of with a faster C2D?

The Phenom, well, has not been so much of a phenom as run-of-the-mill performance-wise. It is a so-so overclocker, the Core 2 Duo or Quad will OC much better. Look into the possibility of a Q6600 fitting into your 680i, it might even accept a Q9350 or other 45nm quad with a BIOS flash. If not I believe you're better off staying with Intel for the best performance. Their newest Core i7 would certainly be a better base for a new system than an old-ish Phenom.

There's a new AMD Phenom II in the pipeline so if you're an AMD fan you might want to wait and see if the Deneb is all it's hyped up to be.

I'm in total agreement with Tony here. Currently, for AMD fans, it's painfully apparent the OC and benchmark crowns are worn by Intel.

IMO i7 motherboards probably need to mature some before any of us go on a spending spree; it's not easy to design chipsets to make the most of any processor' advantages and limitations.

Phenom II might be Pretty cool though... might wait a bit, at the very least it miight create some interesting price drops

That's the spirit! As I said your mainboard might support a Q6600 CPU right now without changing anything else...maximize what you've got. Otherwise it makes no sense whatsoever to center a new build around an old platform...just maximize the potential of what you already have. My 2006 Asus P5W-DH just got a BIOS flash to accept the Penryn Quads...that's my Xmas present to myself HO HO HO!

I am seriously considering the Q6600, but i might look into a BIOS flash.

I am thinking about a new mobo because of the higher FSB i could get, which would help with overclocking . 1066mhz seems like it isn't enough any more...
