Last month created a link specification, did several iterations to come up with the right positions. I gave the specifications the same name as the file to be linked, followed by 1, 2 etc. to differentiate the versions in case I needed to fall back to an earlier spec. Unfortunately, the number of characters for the names of the specifications exceed the visible space on the Import/Export Specifications window. It doesn't appear that I can resize the window to see more of the name. Since I can't tell from the wizard which specification is the one I want to use, is there an alternative, or a method to "go behind the scenes" and rename the spec to fit within the Import/Export Specifications window?
Using Access 2003 SP2

Behind the scenes there are two system tables:

MSysIMEXSpecs : Main, with spec name
MSysIMEXColumns : As it says, the import columns

You will probably need to use a query to rename (SpecName). A query may solve your problem, in that you will be able to view the full name.

Note that these are system tables and should not be tampered with. Be very careful. :)

I saw the names in the Msys tables, but wasn't sure I could type over the existing name to change the name there. I'll copy the mdb and then give it a shot.

You won't be able to alter the table, as far as I know, but you will be able to alter the names in a query.

In a query you could also delete the records describing spec name & import columns, you dont need any more. Just don't leave any orphan records of import columns.

Oh! That is any easy way to add extra fields if you can master it!
