chkdsk Stalls...

[Triage]

I have an XP SP2 Pro system blue screening w/unmountable boot volume error. The chkdsk /r can't get passed 69%...it just stops. The fixboot finds a corrupt boot sector and writes a new one, but a subsequent startup corrupts it again.

Ideas?

Your hard drive may be on the way out the door. Try downloading the hard drive manufacturer's disk diagnostic utility and running that.
