chkdsk getting hung up

Depending on your system,hard disk size, chkdsk can take a loong time to complete.

dumdum2 had to use the /r switch to get to 'Step 4 of 5 Verifying file data....' .....LOL
load the windows xp CD and run the CHKDSK /R off the cd... depending on the size of the drive this could take well over 4 hours ...especially if there is a damage on the drive. if it does not complete overnight follow the paragraph below.
here is another Idea download the the harddrive utility from the same manufacture of your drive and run their drive test utility...that may tell you more if you are having drive issues
