Hi,

I have a failed disk in an NT server. I know it has failed due to the noise coming from it. It is the only disc, therefore I would like to get it working.

I have tried a chkdsk /f so I can then image it to a healthy disc but this halts when repairing a log file. I have left it over 20mins but it doesn't do anything else.

Is there anything else I can try to get the chkdsk /f completed which will enable me to image it?

Thanks.

Try to ghost your disk.

Hopping that you will at lest get the data out of your disk.
If you disk already makes a clack/clack could mean trouble, hurry up.

gavm99,

Download the drive maker's diagnostics and run them from floppy, they may be able to repair the drive.

I have also heard good things about SpinRite but have never used it.

Thanks guys, the recovery or image was both frustrating and did not provide a solution.

In the end I did manage to recover the SQL DB I needed and now I have installed SQL on another server for the time being untill a new disc is purchased.

Thanks.

sorry...that it was not helpful

The best way to thank someone who helps you is give them a star.

Don't be sorry, if the disk was in better condition I am sure it would have worked.

It's always good to have help & advice as a second opinion is highly valuable!

Thanks.
