I'm running OS 9.2 on a G4. I received a MS Word document in Chinese that I can't read (all the characters appear as underlines). I also need to lay out a document in Quark XPress 4.1 using a Chinese font.

1. I can't view the Chinese font, even though I installed the Chinese Encodings file in the System Folder > Text Encodings folder. It is also in the System Folder > Language & Region Support folder.

2. The friendly folks at Apple had told me I don't need to purchase a Chinese font since we have the Chinese Encodings file on the system CD. That sounds suspicious... why do vendors make Chinese fonts if they're wholly unnecessary? And no Chinese font is showing up in my font menu. I think they're mistaken.

Anybody have experience in this area?

Thanks,
