This may seem a silly question to those experienced book designers but it would help me out a lot for some info. I have been asked to do the layout for a children's book. It is the thick cardboard style book for small children. The artist wants me to layout pages that have peek flaps(if that's the correct word). My main question is how do I create a peek flap for a page in Quark? Since I'm new to book design, I would also love to know how to explain to the printer what type of book this is and what type of paper to order?

Thanks!

It would probably be best to discuss the project with your printer before hand, so you can get any specifics from them as to what will work/cause problems.

If you are doing a kiss cut, then you will need to create a die that matches your layout. Again, it would be good to talk to your printer about how they like to receive the files from you.

I agree with B...
Why dont you go to your printer and tell them exactly what you just told us? Many people avoid consulting their printer until the last minute. If you talk with your printer in the development stages they will be able to tell you the best way to set up your files for the results you are trying to achieve.

I could tell you here how I would set the files up, but it really doesn't matter because I'm not working with them. Let the Printer tell you how they would like them. Therefore saving them time and you MONEY!
