Child Domains and DC Roles

I read that the Infrastructure Master should not be on a Global Catalog Server unless in a SINGLE domain with DC's that are all Global Catalog Servers. What if I have a Child Domain? Should I make the child DC the Infrastructure Master? If so, I assume the child DC could not be a Global Catalog Server. I want to have my other 2 DC's in the Parent Domain to both be catalog servers for fault tolerance.
