checkpoint newbie/fundamentals

Hi guys

I've just finished ccsp and my work wants me to get ccsa certified as well so i had a look on checkpoint website. My question is what is checkpoint basically ?
Is it a gui for managing firewalls (something like ASDM on pix), is it an OS running on certain platforms , add-on ?
It may sound lame but I have no clue.

Any help appreciated

Checkpoint is the firewall software which sits on either a windows box, SPLAT, Linux, Nokia box.

Splat is the checkpoint OS which is basically Linux.
