Checking Voicemail from an outside line

I am having trouble with checking voicemail while calling in from an outside line. If i call into the office and the receptionist answers and i want to check my voicemail she transfers me to my extn and when the voicemail greeting starts to play and i hit 8 on the keypad and nothing happens.


i have been told that all i have to do is hit 8 to interrupt the greeting and it will prompt me for an access code.
this is not working.

I have never tried that but the way I have always set up remote voicemail is to configure a DDI to go straight to voicemail in the incoming call route and then when called you are prompted for a extension number and a pin code. Just don't leave your voicemail passwords as 1234,4321,0000 ect...
