Checking the system umask

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to check the system umask? The best solution I have at the moment is logging in as root and issuing the umask command - but I was hoping there was a better way of checking it.

I'd be interested in answers pertaining to HP-UX, Solaris, DYNIX and AIX. Please help!!!!
