How do you check the permissions on a logical volume. Trouble is, I am getting "tar: The getwd subroutine failed. Cannot open the parent directory" when I try to create a tar file on the lv (/archive).
ls -al show the permissoms as 755 and owner/group is sam:sam (user). The tar works when you are root. What am I missing? the lvarchive is a logical volume off of rootvg.

Please post the exact command line you are using with current directory value, preferably in the shell command prompt.

Do ls -ld <directory name> to check the directory permissions.
Also, paste the commands that you are executing. It seems very vague right now and hard to troubleshoot.

You guys were right. It was a permissons issues. Did a lsuser sam and found he was missing the "sam" group. Added this group to the "sam" user and all is good.

Thanks guys for getting me on the right path

John
