I have replaced a Merlin Mail with another Merlin Mail. On the old system, when trying to check messages remotely, users could enter a *7 when the auto attendant answered. Then you would enter your mailbox and everything worked fine. With the new install *7 does not work. The mail says "entry not understood." So there is now no checking messages remotely. Does anyone know why *7 is no longer working?

Not sure why *7 won't work. According to page 41/458 of the Merlin Mail documentation it should:

Try pressing *8 during the auto attendant, then the extension number & "#", and then *7 when the person's personal message is playing.

Does the system recognize *7 at that point?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Do you have the "Touch-Tone Gate" turned on? It's a seldom used feature that requires the caller to press 1 at the start of the call to detemine if they are using a TT or Rotary phone. It may be interferring with the *7. Try dialing 1, and then *7, and if it will let you in, then turn the Touch Tone Gate to Off.

I appreciate your help on this problem, but none of the suggestions made seem to help.

Try *8*7 (transfer, login), or try making a "mailbox" with a cos of 20 for the voice mail calling group, (770?) so you can transfer to the main login (set selector code 7 to direct extension transfer)
