checking for external window

I am teaching myself Visual Basic while working on a project for work and I found that I need to have the program run in the backround and load a form whenever a certain window from another program pops up. If someone could help me it would be much appreciated.

What type of window are you watching out for? (main, child, message). Does it always have the same titel or message?

What system is this supposed to run on?
