How do I check the PC for a required level of software before applying an install?

We are creating a wise install with several datafiles. We only want to apply these files is our installation is a certain version. If it isn't this version, we will delete a key file on the user's PC and force them to upgrade. Is there a way in WISE to check the version of this file?

Three ways:

1) If it was already packaged as a Windows Installer package then use the Upgrades wizard in the Installation Expert.

2) You can use system search to look in a particular file location for a particular min/max version or file date. It will return the path\name of the file only if the condition is true. You can then restrict launch based on this value.

3) You can create a custom action using scripting, C++ dll, or compiled EXE to look at the file version and set a property which can then be queried against.
