Hi Forum

I wonder if you kind and knowledgeable folks would please take a look at the pdf at and let me know if my margins for folding seem correct for 250gsm stock which will be creased and folded. I had to add the 2mm margins when client decided to move to 250 from 170 gsm stock. The 8 pages roll fold and I've allowed 2mm extra on the 'cover'. What do you think please?

...basically with roll folds the left hand pages need to be smaller than the pages they fold into, typically 1 - 2mm...

...in your example the left hand page needs to be the smallest, the one it folds into needs to be 2mm larger...

...then the next page needs to be 2mm larger again and so on...

...it is quite likely this will end up hand folded as it is quite a heavy stock, unless you know of a supplier who knows different, the accuracy of the scores is paramount to how well this will fold...

...once scored, typically from the outside of the sheet, there is not much you can do if they are scored wonky...

...with the cover page, the guillotine operator can trim into bleed if required to help it fold around better, he can also adjust the very far left hand page if required to fold better, this often means trimming the far left page shorter...

...just keep important text elements a good distance from where the trims are likely to be, I often allow 4 - 6mm margins just in case...

Many thanks Andrew that's very helpful. I'm really glad I checked and I'll get back to tweaking my layout.

Cheers
