Is there a code I can dial that will tell me the local and long distance carrier on a POTS line. I know there is one for our PBX and I was hoping it was one for POTS lines so I can weed out the ones that do need some service and maybe add some services too.

1 700 555-4141 = Interlata LD carrier

1 NPA 700-4141 = Intralata LD carrier

To identify your LEC dial 0 and ask the operator

Hope this helps

There are some exceptions to the LPIC or Intralata LD/Toll carrier number: NPA-700-4141. Prior to NANPA reserving NPA-700-4141 for the above purpose there were some NPAs that had already assigned the 700 CO code. We have a few in California.

I ran into this issue this week when I was tracing trouble on some lines in the 213 NPA and kept getting a cell phone. In both 213 and 818 NPAs the 700 code is assigned as a working code. So you have to use an adjacent NPA to test with. In the 818 case I believe the one to use is 661. When I am in the 213 NPA again I will have to try 323 and see if it works.

Hope this helps!
