Check in/out Excel files from web site

Hi all,

I am starting research on a new project and would appreciate any ideas to help my research....

Project:
Users need to access a web site and Check out (download) an Excel file...The user will make changes to the Excel sheet then check the file in (upload) back to the server via the web site.

I will have a SQL DB that will track users check in/outs, etc, etc....

I am not sure where to start with the check in/out part of the project.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated...
