i have a php script which might be be used by more than one person at a time. To use the script the user needs to log in first. Is there a way to find out all the users that might be using the script at any particular time and have their username displayed on the script so that each of the user knows if anyone else is using the page?

This is only possible if you use a session mechanism that stores the user names when tehy log on.
It's just like a db based session handler.

we use cookie to store user_name, can i use those?
thanks

Cookies are exchanged with the individual clients. You need something that stores it on the server.
Even a flat file would be fine.
