Check if File is in Use

Is there a way to check if a file is in use before I try and open it? I've looked at the options under the Scripting.FileSystemObject but I haven't seen anything I could make work together properly.

Chris, here's a good example of how to do this. Doesn't work though if the file can be opened in wordpad or notepad.
