I make a share-used database(mdb or mde format) and put it on the server. In the user application can display all the users linked to the parent database.
The share-used database (parent database) need update very often. But if any user linked to it the updating process can't performed. So I need the user application can receive a message from another user, the best way to chat with any user whose had linked to the parent database.

It seems that there may be some problem with the design of the database. Have you split the database into front-end (forms etc) and back-end (data)?

If the database is already heavily used, it would be a bad idea to use a form to chat as it would require refreshes evey few seconds, email might be better.
