I want to have color pie chart with pattern on top of it.
i can select each pie slice and put pattern but there may be a increase of no of slices in future... looking for a option where i can make the pie chart select pattern automatically

please let me know if this is not possible at all
answers like "not possible" "not sure" helps as i can stop worrying

Thank you

Please do not post multiple times on the same topic. Why not try a sample pie chart where you limit the records in the selection criteria to result in fewer pies and then add the pie chart with pattern, observe the results, and then change the selection criteria to allow more pie slices in--then you will see what will happen if new values naturally occur.

thank you for your reply
I already tried that and got only blank colored slices without pattern so i thought some one would know a answer

If you begin by creating the pie chart with the maximum number of values, formatting each slice with a pattern, if you then reduce the slices, and then increase them again, the patterns will be preserved. So the question is whether you have the ability to allow in all possible values for the initial setup and then build in limiting criteria.

thank you for reply. i did the same yesterday, as you guessed i only had 4 or 5 pie slices so i wanted automatic. but not to worry, i will take of it in future.

i have another question. I have a target line in one of the line graphs. but the target line starts and ends with the other lines in the chart. Is there a way that target line shows up until the end of certain period (as its a constant) and other lines show up depending on the data.

thank you

How did you create the target line? If you added it by formula, you could add a condition to the formula that limits it to certain x-axis values. I think you would need to set up like this though, to prevent a zero value:

if <your criteria> then
36 else
tonumber({@null})

...where {@null} is a new formula that you open and save without entering anything.

Thank you LB. I created the target line using formula.

sorry i did not understand very well. where do you want me to add the condition to formula. how can i control x axis. Please Please explain again

Please show the content of your current formula for the target line. Also identify exactly how your chart is set up in the chart expert (on change of, show value, etc.).

the formula for target is actually one of the data base fields directly. i made it a formula because i can use dont summarize option.

I have set up the chart (line chart) as
on change of status date i show target, planned and actual values
i.e x-axis is status date and y-axis is numbers.
now i want target not to use the status date but the dates (start and end dates) given by me.

hope i am clear. please help

Thank you

So what is the content of the target formula? Did you simply place a field within a formula or is there a condition attached?

-LB

i simply placed a field with in the formula
there are no conditions

What I am suggesting is that you change that formula to:

if <your criteria> then
{table.target} else
tonumber({@null})

-LB

sorry LB
I dont have a criteria, i show the graph target per statusDates field but i want target line beyond the statusDates field based on the endDate field. i.e need to extend target line until the endDate field.
is this possible ???

Sorry, but no you can't do that--the end date would have to be available in the chart as an x-axis field. You could try adding the target line to a separate chart where you use the end date field for the on change of value, and then overlay the new chart over the original one. You would have to make sure the axes matched.

Thank you LB
hmmm adding a new chart is not possible in this case as i have one single value as the end date. Thank you for your time. I will take care of it.
