charting shared variable on the main report

Someboby please suggest:

I am trying to create a pie chart using the sum of field from the main report and sum field from the subreport ....
using the shared variable to return the vlue to main report.

following message is recieved...

Cannot be done on running total. Is there a way around this .... would 8.0 help in this matter....
