ok, I know I should know this, but I don't
In the metatags on web pages, desingers specify the charset, it never seems to be the same. What does it mean and how do I know what value I should use?

Hi,

You should use a charset to "promote interoperability" which I guess means it helps user agents correctly interpret HTML! I think!

As for what to use? keep it simple: UTF-8
