hey there-i'm not a VB girl, but my girlfriend (a user) just called and said the programmers (i've heard lots of less-than-appealing stories about these guys) at her company told her manager (a user) that they couldn't change the "Comment" box to accept more than 15 characters. It sounded like they were claiming that this is some kind of VB thing. now i've taken some VB classes in the past, and being a Access/VBA chick, from what i remember the limits were similar to access. at least i dont remember being shocked at learning about some crazy limits like this. so can you guys tell me the character limits for diff things, like a text box, and for whatever might be equiv to 'memo' field in Access (unlimited # characters but can't sort/filter).

thanks--
g

oh--so it can depend on the db? i get it. they have sql server. i should check into that too then, right?

When they said that they couldn't change the text box to hold more than 15 characters, they probably meant that they didn't want to change the database (which may be more involved than just changing one thing) and recompile the VB program with a new textbox maxlength, not that it wasn't possible.

John had it exactly right . . . VB allows 64K into a textbox, but the database field may be limited to 15 characters. That happens in alot of applications and in order to change the VB app, the database would need to be changed first. - Jeff Marler B-)
