We have a PC in the office that is behaving strnagely in that it has developed a habit of changing the pound sign into a J, the The Euro symbol into a question mark and substituting various Greek or Russian characters for normal Greko-Roman letters.
The normal alt key symbol insertions don't work either, so French and German characters are out too.
This occurs in Word, Excel and particularly Access 97.
Any ideas ?

You might check your language settings. Goto Control Panel-->Regional and Language Options. One the first tab it has a list of different languages and locals that show specific formats for date, currency, etc. and also map certain characters to specific keys on the keyboard.
