Hi

I've just uploaded a website but all the text is coming out like...
þ<???x?m?l? ?v?e?r?s?i?o?n?=?"?1?.?0?"?
in FireFox and
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? "in IE7.

Images are showing OK.

It was OK locally and on my own webspace so is it an issue with the host?

Regards
Wayne

Sounds like a problem with the way you transferred it from your local machine to the remote host. If you used FTP, then make sure the file is transferred as TEXT... and there are no weird translation options enabled.

I use FileZilla - the free ftp client from the Mozilla group... and I never have a problem using the default settings.

Cheers,
Jeff

Make sure your web page and css validates properly against the doctype you have chosen - before you attempt to debug a problem!

Thanks Jeff

Actually, my post didn't show up correctly.

In IE it's displaying rectangles and oriental characters, an in FireFox question marks in black diamonds.

I FTP'ed as I normally do....as far as I'm aware ;o) but will look again later.

Cheers
Wayne

OK, uploaded the pages again and IE is now showing OK but FireFox is still showing black diamonds with question marks.

?!?!?!?!?!?!

Problem solved.

I cut and paste the HTML into a different text file.

I guess there must have been a dodgy character when the HTML was originally written.
