As I am typing a document spurious characters suddenly start to appear. In a new document, with a blank sheet, characters, sometimes whole words appear from nowhere. First a series of dots start to apear, then they are replaced by characters or words. Part sentences, proper words, anything. I even removed the batteries from the cordless keyboard, and the characters kept coming.

do you have any Macro's running at the time? Has the Normat.doc template been altered in any way? seems like a very strange effect. Can you tell us what version of word you are using and hopefully we can help

Sounds like speech recognition has been turned on somehow.

Cheers, Glenn.

Did you hear about the literalist show-jumper? He broke his nose jumping against the clock.

Thanks for your comments, I will check that speech recognition is not on.

I am running MS Office XP.

I also seem to have a problem with MS Outlook, when looking at my Inbox the screens keep flicking back and forth, one moment I am in the Inbox, the next I am in the Spam folder, drop down menu's keep dropping down. As I am typing a new message, the "select names" panel pops up when not requested, it does this many times as I am typing. Screeming at the monitor, swearing at the cat and thumping the desk and crying don't seem to help!

I have Symantec Internet Security 2005 installed, everything worked fine for a few weeks so I am not sure it is this that is contributing.

The pub is looking better all the time!!

Well guys you came up trumps.

I checked the speech recognition, and it was on. I noticed that as a tapped the desk, or used the mouse the words came, so than I knew it had to be the speech recognition. I turned it off, or thought I did and the problem persisted, then I unplugged the mike and low and behold the problem went away. So thanks for the advice, its the first time I have accessed this website and I am glad I did.

Thanks again guys.

One happy user is even happier.
