Character spacing, masking & hyperlinks

Ok,

Working with Flash MX.

If I create a hyperlink out of static text, I lose character spacing. Why, and how to fix this? Also, if this text is being masked, after typing in the hyperlink address, the masking element shows on top of the text! Why? Fix? =(
