Character Set UTF8 vs AL32UTF8 Differences

Hi everyone. Is there really any difference between character sets UTF8 on 8i and AL32UTF8 on 10g? We need to import data from an 8i database into the 10g and the question was raised about the character set. I am sure we did an 8i export into a 10g database in the past without an issue. Thanks
