I have a document that was produced a couple years ago, and I am trying to re-vamp it. Trying to make page numbers for each chapter that look like A-1, A-2 then B-1, B-2 for next chapter. I don't care if the chapters are numbered or lettered, or if there are full chapter names before the dash 1, dash 2. I have found instructions on Microsoft website that didn't work for me. Not enough explanation about how they are supposed to work. All my books explain page numbers not chap nums. I understand how sections and section breaks work. I have a separate section for each chapter. I know how to restart page numbering. Can anyone offer help on this? the Microsoft instructions that are not complete enough for me can be found at

Hi,

In the HEADER,

Insert/Field/Numbering - Section: Options-A,B...

then enter a dash

then Insert page Number

-------------------------

In the next section

1. turn OFF same as previous

2. format page number - Page numbering - start at 1
