chap authentication setting

I am experiencing troubles when setting the chap authentication.
I have tryied the following

On the first serial interface
enc ppp
ppp auth chap call
ppp chap pass default

on the second router serial line
ppp auth chap call
ppp chap pass default

RouterC(config)#interface serial2/0
RouterC(config-if)#encapsulation ppp
RouterC(config-if)#ppp authentication chap
RouterC(config-if)#ppp chap hostname LOGIN
RouterC(config-if)#ppp chap password PASSWORD

You need to add the line

Router(config)#username call password default

To the router that is being called.
