1. What is the difference between channel attached systems and network attached systems? I work on an XP workstation using Queryman and BTEQWin. I also connect to a unix box using Attachmate and run bteq in a unix environment. Would Queryman and BTEQWin be considered Network attached, and unix Channel attached? Or are the both Network, or Channel?
2. I'm trying to import a flat file in a unix environment to load into teradata using bteq (we don't have access to fastload or any other load utility due to restricted privileges). I'm not sure how to code my script using the .IMPORT command because of the expected file layout for BTEQ. I read it and it said for network attached it needs to begin with a two byte length field, and end with and end of record indicator. But channel attached says it just requires the data without any indicator fields. So my question is, using BTEQ can I import and load a flat file into teradata?
Any information would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks in advance (I hope)
Bill
