Changing views or layouts in 2000i causes Fatal Errors!!!!

We are using a piping overlay package to create 3D piping drawings. We create layouts with multiple view ports for detailing. It seems when the model get over a certain size 5MB we get fatal errors when we try to change views in the model or go from layouts to model space.

We have never had this many fatal errors when using r14. What gives here?
