changing user name

i'm trying to change a user name, the user got married and would like to change the last name. any inputs on whats the best way to change a name. i tried changing through [file]-[tools]-[user id]-[more options]-[change name] however, the user was unable to login(locked out). does this mean i have to create a new user using the new last name? what about the [old db] if the user wants to use?

Did you complete the name change procedure by emailing it to the administrator? Having the admin recertify and return to oldname? Old name following instructions for acdcepting new user ID?

i ended up creating a new user and link the old db. to the new account.
