Changing to Simple Mode for Reindexing

I would like some opinions. I have taken over as a DBA in a company and going through their jobs I have the following concerns:

They reindex at roughly 9pm at night and within this job change the recovery mode to simple, reindex and change back to full recovery.

They take a full backup at 2:45 am every day.

By changing to simple recovery model aren't they exposing themselves to potential problems given the schedule?

Wouldn't it be better to do backup, change to simple recovery, reindex and then change to full recovery?

Thanks!!!

Well it really depends upon your environment and what type of disaster recovery you business can live with.

Question may be: Do you need to do point in time restores?

I would advise taking a look at BOL (Books OnLine) and read over the various recovery modes. Then ask the pertinent "Exec" what the company's SLA is (that being what level of recoverability do they expect and need).

Thanks
