I'm at a large hospital with a Nortel Option 81C 4.5 rls. Our paging codes have been 181-189 since I got here 5 years ago. This unfortunately allows for some fax and voice misdials that access the paging trunks. The Director has finally put her foot down and wants these misdials to end. I'll take any ideas, but my first was to add an * in front, as in *181-*187, is this possible?

Definitely don't change the page code to "1800" [ponder]

Those are either Extensions or Trunk Route Access Codes and must be numeric.

Hmmmm, I used to work at a hospital where 2 digit paging codes were the norm. Only twice while working there in 6 years did I hear a patient accidentally access the paging trunks. I think your director is being a bit out of line on that one. The fax misdials on the other hand do sound quite annoying. Why not taking the paging trunks to 5 digits and place them in a number range that is way off of your normal dialing plan. I am more of a BCM guy, but is there a way to program the page trunk to only accept a certain number of digits or it won't process? Ask GHTROUT, he is amazing on this stuff!

It happens twice a week. GHTROUT, they are Access Codes, no way to use an *? What is the easiest way to solve the misdial over the overhead speaker issue?

No, you cant use an * in the ACOD for the page routes. What exactly is the problem? Are they just forgetting to dial 9 before their number? I have never seen in all my years, 32, a paging access code starting with a 1. Typically 1 in a Nortel switch is used as the SPRE code. JUst change the ACOD to something different. It can be any number up to 4 digits, 7 digits with the DN expansion package.
