Hi there

Some genius changed the language on my laptop (it's a HP if that makes any difference...)

I'd like to change it back now as I can't read German! :)

I've looked thru the Language Bar & in "Clock, Language & Region" in Control Panel (on another, English language machine :)) but can't seem to be able to change it back. All those language changes seem to do is change the keyboard layout etc.

Microsoft's help site was also useful as a sack full of wrenches

Does anyone know how to change the language back?

thanks in a million if you do!

************************************************************The display language is the language that Windows uses in wizards, dialog boxes, menus, Help and Support topics, and other items in the user interface. Some display languages are installed by default, and others require you to install additional language files. When you change the display language, it is changed for your user account and is not changed on the Welcome screen. If you want to set the display language for multiple users or the Welcome screen, see Apply regional and language settings to reserved accounts.

Click to open Regional and Language Options.

Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.

Under Display language, choose a language from the list, and then click OK.

Note
If you don't see the list of display languages, you need to install additional language files first. For more information, see Install a display language.

When you change the display language, the text in menus and dialog boxes for some programs might not be in the language that you want. This happens because the program might not support Unicode. For more information about changing the text in menus and dialog boxes for programs that do not support Unicode, see Change the system locale.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

I've been having the same problem on a winxp laptop (regarding the user interface display language) and have had to reformat.

Any help from this post?

Check and see if the Language bar is installed.

To show the Language bar
Right-click the taskbar, point to Toolbars, and then click Language bar.

Once the Language bar is displayed, you can right-click it to display options for changing its settings, including docking it on the taskbar or displaying it vertically instead of horizontally.
