If I go to control panel, and go to "printers and faxes" I see in the properties of my printer that it is set to print on "letter" size automatically. Is there a way in word 2007 to print by default a different paper size other than "letter"?....I want to be able to go to word every time and when i click on "print" to print on a different size paper

Why not set your page size to something other than paper if that's what you want?

because I ONLY want word to print to a different size paper....i want all of my other applications to print "letter' size which is the default size on the printer properties in control panel

Try setting your default template (normal.dot) to a different paper size and re-save. This will force all new documents to print to that paper size... at least is does in 2003.

And if you had stated that requirement in your original post, we probably would have had a better idea of what you were looking for.

thanks cckens... I opened the normal.dotm file and then click on "print" and then select a different orientation when the printer dialog pops up(for example i selected landscape instead of protrait)i then print it and then save the normal.dotm file. I close and reopen word and when i try to print a new document..it still prints portrait and not landscape...I am not sure when you change the normal.dotm file printer settings it saves that information for the next time u use word. Not sure if saving the normal.dotm file with different settings applies to printers settings :-(

on the page Layout tab, click the Dialog Box Launcher in the Page Setup group. (The Dialog Box Launcher is a tiny tool with a tiny arrow on it. It is to the right of the group name "Page Setup")

Choose the paper size then click the button labelled "Default".

Thanks Lilliabeth and Ken! That worked great!...it does exactly what I wanted, too bad there is no option there to make it print double sided always too since my printer has a duplexing unit, but I can live with that. Thanks again1

Hi,

For duplexing, I have had to add a new Printer icon that is configured for duplex.

Skip you mean install a second printer which would use the same printer hardware as the original but set that second printer to always use duplex and then make word use that printer as its default every time?

Use the same printer driver, set up with duplexing.

You can only have one printer in Windows as the default.
