How can I disable the autologon feature on a NT workstation when the user who is configured to logon automatically does not have administrative privilege on the Computer

Once you have started the machine, do a "Log off and log on as different user" to log on as an administrator and edit the registry. Thanks MasterRacker

However, this does not work. When you logoff it automatically log back on.

Are you running NT as your server OS? If so, Domain Administrators are automatically members of each workstations local administrators group. Log onto another workstation as a domain administrator, run regedit and connect to the other machines registry remotely to edit it. Crazy question, are you perhaps running TweakUI? It can be set to autologon. . .If so, you will have to change the login there. BTW Tweak makes an icon in the control panel. . .

HKLM\software\microsof\windows NT\current version\Winlogon

autoadminlogon = "0"
Defaultusername = ""
DefaultDomainName = "?"
LegalNoticeCaption= " (Needs to be empty) "
LegalNoticeText = "" (Needs to be empty)

None of the above works. i am not running tweakUI. Also, remember that the user who is logged on automatically does not have administrative priviledges on the machine. Therefore, a read only copy of the registry will be invoked with the registry editor.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway

The remote registry edit failed? In detail, what procedure did you try? [sig]
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

If everything seems to be going well: you don't have enough information.......[/sig]

When you logoff the user try holding the shift button down to see if this stops the logon. This works with the autologon that is provided with the resource kit.
ITS WORTH A TRY!!!!

If this computer is a member of a domain, log onto another machine (or the server) as an admin. Run REGEDT32.exe

click the registry pull down menu, click on select computer. Then put in the computer's name. . . that will let you edit the registry on that machine directly.

Hope this helps . . .
