I am running NetWare 4.11, ArcServe 6.6, on a Compaq Server. I've been having a lot of problems with the tape drive lately, it started when it started running out of room on tape 4/8, (I figured it was a tape problem)It was fine, then all of a sudden I was lucky if I could get it to back up a gig. Now the drive has just had it!!! It ate a few tapes, spit a few out and said "No More!!!" My question is, I have one I took out of another Compaq server, that is a 12/24, ArcServe's site shows it's compatible. But, other than replace it in the server, do I have to do anything else??? Is there any other configuring involved to make it work with Arcserve??
Thanks,
Annette

For a stand alone tape drive it is not necessary to make a configuration change. When the system comes up after replacing the tape drive (even if it is external it is necessary to restart the system)and the Tape Engine starts it should automaticly identify the tape drive and put it into the default group. To verify, go into the Device Manager window of ARCserve and then into Groups. Make sure the new tape drive is in the correct group. By default there is only one group Group0. Sometimes if a group by a different name is being used it might be necessar to remove the tape drive from Group0 and put it into the other group.

It's an internal drive, not an external. Does that make any difference? Otherwise, it looks like the groupname is Arcserve. I'm going to install this tomorrow since it's the only day I can have the server down. Once I get it installed, I might be crying for help on Monday!!!!!
