Have a user who has got married and has changed her surname. We have GW5.5 enhanced with internet addressing on. The syntax is First.Last@blah.co.uk.

I change her surname to and all is fine. Email in/out as First.Next@blah.co.uk. BUT, how do I set it so she can still receive on First.Last.

I can't create an alias as First.Last as all her outbound email will use the alias, nor can I create a nickname as it will not period in a nickname. Any ideas? Lee Smith

I recently had this as work as well.

Deleted the old user (completely). Then, with the new name, created an nickname which happened to be her old name.

It worked just fine.

I could do that but the nickname would have to contain a period, not allowed. Lee Smith

Do the alias thing the other way round so that it sends out using the correct alias we do this then add in the signature that the users name has changed so please can people update their records. We do this for 1 month then rename the account and set it up with the new name and everyone is happy!

Or another way is to create a new account after first archiving all the mail in the original mail then copy it into new account then set up a rule that says something like this users has changed their name to blah email address blah For security reasons your email has been deleted please resend it to the correct address. ( we do this when people leave with the name of the new employee or whoever the mail should go to.

The other option is to go through Frequent Contacts and E-mail everyone the new nam.

Or you could check the BAD file and forward messages to the newly married user that go to her old address.

Hope this helps!!!!!!!!

I had thought of the option of creating a new account but thought it a bit messy. Thanks for the confirmation that it is the best way.
