Hello,

I'd like to change the roaming profile path for users in my domain. I created a share on a drive and changed the profile location in the profile box of my account, it now reads \\servername\sharename\%username%

I can get to the folder by entering \\servername\sharename in the run box, but for some reason, the profile doesnt end up in the new spot, I get an error saying

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1521
Date: 29/04/2008
Time: 09:06:14
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: ComputerName
Description:
Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be copied to the server when you logoff. Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - The network name cannot be found.

Now I am sure I have the permissions set up correctly, the share is Autenticated Users-Full Control, Everyone-READ and for NTFS permissions Authenticated Users-Modify and Everyone-READ, Users-READ.

Perhaps they are not correct?

Any help is most appreciated.
Regards,
D.

Try setting up auditing on the shared folder. That would tell you if you are getting denied because of permissions. The other issue could be name resolution since it says it can't find the server. You test that by pinging the server by name. You can use nbtstat -a ServerName and nslookup ServerName to see what they are resolving to.

Double check the spelling in the profile box. I've done things like \\servername\sharename\%username forgetting the trailing %.

Also, the %username% should resolve to your name in the profile path box.

I like to copy and paste the full path from the profile path into Start-Run just to make sure it resolves to a valid location and I made no typo's.

Hello,

Thank you for your replys, pgaliardo, would you believe that about 5 minutes before the e-mail telling me about your post, I discovered that was indeed the problem. I was relieved it was an easy fix, but also annoyed with myself for such a silly mistake, but had I not noticed, your post would have solved my issue.

Thank you both for sparing the time to answer.

Kind Regards,
D.
