I've just installed Debina 3.0r0 on my PII. It has Riva128 built-in. I'm unable to start X server. When I write +startx+ it gives an error that my card does not support 16 bit depth. Now, I guess that the best solution is to change the depth to 8 bit. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Is there anyother way i can start using KDE or X window system on my system? Suggestions...

Yep. NOt a problem. Login at console as root and do the following:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

It will then ask you all the questions needed to use X and kde. If it doesnt ask you the configuration questions, run

dpkg-reconfigure debconf

and set the priority that the system asks questions to low. Then re-run the first dpkg-... command.

If all else fails, go edit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 and edit it so that X runs. Still, I'm VERY sure you will not have to do this. Please let Tek-Tips members know if their posts were helpful.
