changing properties of an object when the adjustment layer is modified

Hi guys,

I tried to figure out this issue, when you have a layer where you have SOME TEXT. Then you have /I'm not sure if this is correct/ an Adjustment Layer, where in the parent field you select the TEXT layer. And here's the question: how do you change the TEXT's properties such as scale and opacity using the adjustment layer..I don't want to change the properties directly in the TEXT layer but instead I want to have a layer which I link to my TEXT layer and by changing the values in the Adjustment layer also the TEXT layer will be modified. I tried to link the adjustment layer to my TEXT layer but what it does, it changes the properties of the whole composition.

you can try adding an expression to your text layer. in the timeline, select your text layer and create an expression. drag the pickwhip from the adj layer to whatever parameters you wish it to effect. you can also use motion math to achieve the desired results.check out my tutorials at
