Our company will be changing out email system from an exchange 5.5 system to an exchange 2003 system. Our email address will also be changed from firstname.lastname@comany1.com to firstname.lastname@company2.com. So my question is, is there a way to automate the changing of the Outlook profiles? All of our workstations are in the same domain. Thanks in advance for all the help.
Charles

The easiest way for you do do this is to join the 2003 server to the 5.5 site and move mailboxes. You can then simply use Recipient Update Services to add the new domain name to each user's mailbox.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I'm not sure that will help me. We are going to move all the mailboxes from the exchange 5.5 server (server1) to the exchange 2003 (server 2). Am I wrong in thinking that I will need to change my outlook profile to point to the new server?

No. If the new server is made part of the same Exchange site and you leave both servers on for a day or two after moving the mailboxes you will NOT need to visit any clients. They will automatically update with the new location which is why this is the best way to do it.

After the profiles are all updated when the users access their mailboxes after the move, you can then safely remove the 5,5 server using the following KB:

If that doesn't work, or complexities prove it impossible, you can also dig up a copy of mapigen ( and put it into the login script using the format
Mapigen.exe "DISPLAYNAME" "MAILBOXNAME" SERVERNAME

The only issue I've ever seen with this is it does not check the CACHED MODE box.

I am moving out of the existing exchange site and moving to a new exchange domain. I believe that I must touch each workstation, unless I can update the outlook profiles automatically.

Why are you setting up a new Exchange site?

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

mapigen will still do what you need. It runs from a script, such as the login script.

But, like Mark, I wonder as to the need of a new site?
