Can any1 tell me the correct way to change the IP address of my PIX 515 ver 4.4?

HI.

This is very dependant on your current and planned configuration.
The pix normaly uses more then 1 ip address.

Some tips are:

* Backup current configuration.
* Plan the new configuration.
* Verify router configuration and that the new ip range can work.
* You will need to change the following:
ip address outside ...
global (outside) 1 ...
static ?
* If you have an internal mail server, you will also need to change the DNS MX record (ask your ISP).

There can be more configuration changes, depending on your scenario.

Let me state the question better:

My PIX has only one interface and that is what I want to change the IP Address of. I understand the ramifications of such a change on the network. I am readdressing the entire network changing from a class C to a class B. In doing some preliminary experimentation I have found that if I change the IP address of my interface the PIX crashes. I must be doing something wrong. ..

What is the proper proceedure for changing this?

Hedge,

>My PIX has only one interface and that is what I want to >change the IP Address of.

Wow! You must have some sort of new experimental PIX. All the other ones Cisco sold have at least 2 interfaces (inside and outside). ;-)

>I understand the ramifications of such a change on the >network.

Cool.

>I am readdressing the entire network changing from a class >C to a class B. In doing some preliminary experimentation >I have found that if I change the IP address of my >interface the PIX crashes.

That's NOT what it is supposed to do. Try shutting the interface down first.

You DO NOT have to do a no ip address ... on the PIX like IOS routers. Just enter a new address on an interface.

>I must be doing something wrong. ..

When you are done you want to clear the ARP table on the routers upstream and downstream. If you can reboot them. Otherwise power cycle them.

Power cycle all the PCs and servers to clear their ARP tables.

Remember to turn that interface back on!
