Hi there!

I created a flyer from one of the pre-made templates in Publisher 2007. When I go to change the graphic, it does this weird thing where it inserts the new graphic, but the graphic placeholder stays the same size. So let's say I insert a picture that's portrait when the placeholder was landscape. There will be some sizing handles around my new picture that are greyed out and have little x's and can't be used. Then there will be another set of sizing handles around where the Landscape placeholder was. Those sizing handles can be used. Why can't I just have the sizing handles around the graphic that I inserted? Seems weird to have all this extra space around my picture.

Try inserting the new graphic off to the side of the page, then delete the original graphic, then drag and resize the new graphic into the location where you want it to be. You might need to tweak setting as to how text wraps around it, if there are borders, or not, etc. You might take a look at the Properties of the original graphic before you delete it, so you have settings you can start with on the new one.

Hi kirstypie
You may have solved your question using the directions kindly given you by Fred Wagner above because that action will certainly work. But if you wish know why the sizing handles acted the way they did, is because when you insert a picture using the 'Change Picture' command into a template placeholder, the picture is grouped to the place holder behind it. So right click the picture to get a drop down menu and select 'Ungroup'. (If this is not in the menu then click in clear space to deselect and right click the picture once only again and then select 'Ungroup') The placeholder will disappear and the picture re-size handles will work as normal. Hope this helps.
