Changing Phone Types with same TN

I would like to know if is possible to change phone types using the same TN. Say I have a 2008 series phone with a TN 4-0-2-2 which is a 2008 series phone. I want to upgrade that same TN to a 2616 using the same setup. Is there a way to do this or do I have to rebuild the whole phone? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to rebuild the whole phone. However, most of the time I will out the 2008 ( after I print a TNB of it)copy another 2616 that is about the same and then just change key 0,key 1, SCC, DIG and anything else unique.
