Hi ppl,

i need to change the name of my pc from xxx to yyy, my pc is in a domain DDD, and i'm using winXp pro...

i also have a local sql server upgraded from 7.0 to 2000...

when ever i try change the name of the pc, after the restart and before ctrl+alt+del i get a msg on the screen saying that my local sql server has become corrupted...

with the new name i tryed to restart the services, and they failed to start...

tryed put sqlserver2000 cd and force instalation , but it couldnot start the services once again...

i see only one solution but i wanted to know if there is another... the solution is saving all my databases, unistall sql server , reinstall sqlserver and put back the databases...
is there any other solution, or am i missing something!?!?

ps. i stoped the services before rename the pc but it also didn't work...

thanks you all for at least reading this post...

I "beleive" you may be running into a SID issue. the installation of SQL Server is somewhat bound to the physical name of the system it was installed upon. Changing the system name "After" the SS install may cause the issues you are seeing. Your workaround looks to be valid, though another forum member may have a better solution. Thanks

Does SQL Server start if you change the name back to the original name? Have you examined the SQL Server error logs for messages? How about the Windows event log? What is the exact screen message?

Please tell us the operating system of the PC. Which Edition of SQL Server is installed - Standard, Enterprise, Deveoper, Personal, MSDE?
